COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING CORRESPONDENCE AND REPORTS The ordinary monthly nieeting of the Rotorua County Council was held yesterday.' There were present, Crs. H. P. Ford (in the chair) , J. gmythe, A. L. Keith and R. Copeland Smith. The County Clerk, Mr. A; Bellingham, and the County engineer, Mr. T. S. Robertson were in attendance. ^ A letter was read from the Department of Lands and Stirvey, Auckland, asking whether the Council had ariy objectibn to a road through the Waiwherowhero block near the Koutu railway station recently laid off by the Native Lhnd Court, being proclaimed public. It was left to the chairmari and county , engineer to go into the position and forward a reply to the Department. The engineer was instructed to prepare proposals for ari improvement scheme to the road giving access to Mr. W. L. Brett's property at Rerewhakaitu. A letter was read from the Public Works Department, Tauranga, forwarding the sum of £359 9s 8d in payment for Government grant works completed by tho Council. A request was received frbm the Prime Minister's Department, Wellington, asking for statistical information in connection with the County's workings, to be submitted for consideration by the special Parliamentary Economic Committee. _ The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and county clerk to supply the necessary information. Treasurer's Report The treasurer's report shqwed that receipts since the last meeting of the Council had been £1467 7s ld. This amoUnt brought the total rqceipts for the current year up to £8720 9s 3d. The Co.unty Fund account was in credit £579 ls 7d, and the Roading Loans Account, £69 ls 3d. A.sum of £1500 was on fixed deposit. Expenditure out of the north riding account had been £85 2s ld during the inonth, and the ex'penditure out of the sOuth riding accoiint, £185 5s 4d. .Total expehditure to date had been £10,191 2s lld. The repOrt of the county engineer, Mr. T. S. Robertson, on the work done during the month and estimates for proposed work, with certain items deferred for further consideration, was adopted.
