SHORT CUTS
SAVING LABOUR ON ANNUAL SPRING CLEANING. Whether or not one is fortunate enough to possess all of tlie modern eleaning appliances, the business of house- eleaning is greatly simplifled if flrst thought out, and then undertaken in a systematie way. For instance, if rugs are to be serit to the olOaner, gath^r all those needing ■to go and send them all at onoe. Then, while they are away, clean walls and floors, leavlng window washing until the last thing. As the pictures are taken down, let the glass be washed with a sponge wrung from warm suds of soap flakes, and pplished with a soft cloth. Clean in the sunlight, if possible, the upholstered pieces and replace them. When practicable, put mattresses and bedding outdoors in the sunshine, after eleaning and dusting them with the vacuum eleaner attachment made for that purpose. • For eleaning enameled woodwork there is nothing easier or more satisfaetory -than warm suds, to which a small amount of household ammonia has been added. Wash the wood with a sponge- and dry with chamois. This is easily and quickly done and does not in the least injure the finish of the enamel. If there is extra work to be carried through, such as reflnishing some piece or pieces of furniture, a plaee should be made for this task where it will not interfere with the other lahour under way. Before starting the house-cleaning, go through cupboards and sort out clothes to be used another season and those to be disposed of. Clean dresser drawers and diseard the worn-out and useless articles. This can be done without any inconvenience or disarrangement in other parts of the house and is a splendid preparatory process. Moreover, a plentiful supply of cloths will thus be found available for eleaning when the sunshiny days arrive to begin work in earnest.
