Final Card Evening The Rotorua Athletic and Axemen's, Glub held the final 500 pard evening of the aggregate series * las^ night, the winners 'for the evening being ladies, Mrs. "W. Mathesbnj gentlemen, Mr. Costello. " The "winners of the aggregate prize were Mrs. Winslade and Mr." Pennington, who each received a cheque from the club. The season has proved most successful finaneially, the club's funds having been considerabiy augmented. It is the intention of ,the club to close the winter s.eason., with a big dance and 500 evening at a date yet to be fixed. To-day'« Rugby Matches After the last-minute cancellation of the visit of the Frankton Senior Rugby representatives, which had beeri arranged for to-day, an effort was made'to arrange a match wifch a Te Puke senior team as a'substitute. This, however, was not successful, and there will therefore be no senior Rugby football played in Rotorua this afternoon. The Rotorua representa:tive team selected to 'play Galatea at Murupara to-day will assemble at Fuller's corner at 12 noon. Tlie Frankton juniors (under 10 stone) will play Rotorua Juniors at Arawa Park as arranged. Annual Dance Exposition. The third vannual exposition of artistic dancing as portrayed by Miss Del Thompson and her pupils of the Rotorua School of Dancing will be held on Friday evening, September 11, in the Majestic Theatre. In her previous public denionstrations Miss Thompson's pupils earned unstinted praise for their ability in character representations and their skiil and precision in the intricate movements evolved. "The Dove and" the Bat" will by special request' be repeated on Friday evening. Lake Front Bill Passed. The Rotorua Borough Reclamation Empowering Bill (the Lake Front Bill), which was in charge of Mr C. H. Clinkard, M.P. for Rotorua, was put through its final stages in the House of Representatives on Thursday night and passed. Mr Clinkard nbtifi'ed^ the Borough Council to this effect yesterday. Ujaderground Railway. The new roadway in George Street, Sydney, between Park and Bathurst Streets, has been raised to allow for the roof of the underground railway. It willl now )3e necessary for all the owners of shops in that locality to lift the floorings about a foot or more. The cost will be in the vicinity of £30,000. Hawke's Bay Aero Club* The Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club has made 12,000 flights without injury to anyone and five of the club's 33 members have qualified for B licenses, which entitles them to carry passengers. Holder of Trophies. By capturing the Ranfurly Shield from Wellington, Canterbury now holds the premier trophies for -Rugby, cricket and hockey. The shields are the Ranfurly Shield, the Plunket Shield and the New Zealand Hockey Association's Shield. The last named trophy the province has defended successfully for three years. Whale Cut in Half; A large whale which swam into the course of the liner Majestic a few weeks ago when she was fifteen hours out from New York, was cut clean through by the bows of the. vessel. One of the grew stated, on the arrival of the vessel at Southampton, that the ship cut through the whale like a knif e through butter. The two . portions of the carcase were left . floating on the surface of the ocean, which was coloured crimson over a large area by the blood of the whale.
