ii u LiivLiA N d Katurcay. After an ali day search, four men wer_ arrested to-day, iollovring a sensational hxld-up at Wiri. Mr Robert \villiam Wiison postmaster and storekc'eper at.the settlement was aroused by the ringing of a burgular alarm in tbe early "hours of the morning. He rushed out to find tbree men making their escape but when he gave chase he was covered by a revolver and ' | ordered to put his hands up. He attempted tj take the number of the car towards whicb the men were heading, ana two shots were fired at him. The men, who enterea the car, then drove away in the direetion oi Auckland. • The police authorities asrigned a number of detectives to rnvestigate crime and on Saturday evening, four men were arrested. The arrested men are George Edward Allan, Thomas Edwards, Lloyd Riehard Faithful and Edward Donovan, wbose ages rarnge betwei n 25 anvi 35. They were caught in a -mall heuse or bach, at Waikowhai, by DeU ctive-Sergeant Biekerdike and Detectives Nalder, Packman, Snedden and Hunt. Arrested m Bach. Edwards was interviewed at an early hour on Saturday morning at Point Chtvalier, and was found in possession- of a motor car, which wai' taken to the police station. Edwards was detained and taken with tbe detectives, who went out in the aftern ,on in motor cars to look for the other men whom th?y su~pected of being involvei in the hold-up. The three otber men were arrested in the bach at Waikowhai, Three hours passed at Waikowhai Suijpuuq aioAY sxo^xsia eqj, before the three men were placed under arrest and brought into the city lock-up, whicb was reacbed at 6.20 p.m. None of the men offered any resistance when the detectives called at the house. The pla'oe was searched, and Retective Packman found a 3even.-chambered revolver hidden on a ledge in one of the room's. Tbe weapon, it is alleged, was fully loaded in four chambers and three chambers were "dead." The four .aceused will appear at the Auckland Police Court this morning and will face a series of charges.
