ROTORUA DEFEAT RUAHINE. The Rotorua ladies' hockey representatives met and defeated the Ruahine ladies' team on the. Government Grottnds yesterday afternoon by three goals to two, some good play being witnessed by a fair crowd of spectators. Immediately after the commencement Ruahine were penalised for under cutting and J. Chaytor took play into the Ruahine circle and sent a fine pass to M. Mitcbell who centred and M. Black scored for Rotorua with a good shot. Ruahine attacked for some minutes and the loeal backs were hard pressed, L. Tanner eventually getting her forwards away. M. Black and R. Rogers made several fruitless shots at goal. A good passing rush between. all the Rotorua forwards saw a penalty corner awarded to them from which G. Rogers scored with a beautiful shot. Rotorua 2, Ruahine 0. Securing the ball in the Ruahine twenty-five, S. Naera took play into the visitors' circle and scored an easy goal. Rotorua 3, Ruahine 0.'^ A shot at goal by Mrs. Nicholas, Ruahine inside right, after the commencement of the second spell, iacked direction and went behind. Ruahine made a further attack. J. Tanner running out to save, missed the ball and a score seemed likely, but L. Tanner saved in the nick of time. Play slackened towards the end of the game and the final whistle was J blown without further addition to the J score.
