WOMAM IN THE CASE
HOW MR. LANG ENTERED POLITICS. Mr. Jack Lang admits it was a woman who first lured him into Labour politics. Her name is Mrs. MacNamara, and to her little boolcshop 30 years ago the youthful Jack trudged cheerfully to woo the daugh•ter Bertha whom he afterwards married. But besides Bertha, and the seeds of Socialism, several other interesting things came out of. that same bookshop. Henry Lawson also found a mother-in-law in Mrs. MacNamara, who still treasures the table she long ago used to lend to Holman and Hughes for their fiery Domain and street-corner eruptions. This table was again used — not by Holman and Hughes — at the polling booth in the last Federal election. When recent lists were made for swamping the State Upper House, this 71-years-old mother-in-law of the Premier was include.d. Her own feeling is that, with the handle of M.L.C. to her name, people would be more impressed by her Socialist teaching.
