RETURN ESSEX MATCH. COUNTY DISMISSED FOR 150. SOUTHEND-ON-SEA, Monday. The match between the New Zea•md cr:cketers and Essex was reumsd to-day and when stumps were 'rawn the vis'tors were in a very ;t>. ong position. On Saturday New iealand had made 360 for the loss of light wickets when stumps were Irawn. The score was carried to 412 before the last wieket fell and Essex were dismissed for 150 in their first venture. Following on, the County jad scored 53 for the loss of one wicket when play closed for the day. The New Zealand bowlers definitey held the upper hand. Pope was dismissed shortly after luirch by a low catch by Matheson at square leg off Vivian. Nichols and Bray were the only others to offer any resistance to the .mcuvate bowling of Vivian and Merritt. The former was eirceptionally •.teady and bowled 29 overs, of which 14 were maidens. The last four wickets fell for 10 runs. Eastman was unable to bat owing to an injured hand. The innings lasted for 195 minutes. Lowry enforced the follow-on. Essex batted for an hour before •tumps were drawn. Merritt agam bowled well and de-se-ved. more than one wicket. The weather throughout was bitterly cold and there were several adornments owing to bad light or showers. The attendance was 4000.
