TANIWHA STILL UNBE1ATEN. ARAWA AND MAMAKU WIN. Ladies' hockey matches played last Saturday resulted in little .changa ih the^ championship ladder. Taniwha easily maintained their unbeaten record and have now a clear margin of seven points from Arawa, who are second. By their win over Putaruru, Mamaku have parbed company with Whippets, and now occupy third position, Whippets, Putaruru and Ngongotaha filling the remaining places ira the order given. ARAWA- SCORE WELL. / The early match, played on the Government Grounds, between Arawa and Ngongotaha was spoilt by the fact that both teams were playing short. Arawa, with seven players, had n'o difficulty in defeating tha Ngongotaha team of nine and were constantly in the Brown and Gold territory. Nice passing rushes, mainly between G. Rogers, R. Mngi and P. Ehau had the Ngongotaha backs well b ea ten and in the second spell Arawa scored at Will. The only player showisng up for j Ngongotaha was Mrs. Henderson, who j scored her sides' two goals. Wild j passing by the other members of her j team invariably put the ball into I Arawa's possession. G. Rogers and P. Ehan were the main scorers for Arawa, their total being three goals ! each. The final score was Arawa 9, Ngogotaha 2. TANIWHA OUTCLASS WHIPPETS. The match, Taniwha versus Whippets, also played on the Government Grounds, produced some good hockey and spectators were kept interested throughout the game. Taniwha, who were so far unbeaten in the Wairua-o-Rangi Cup competition, had no difficulty in winning the match by four goals to nil, T. Wharekura, their speedy "bully" continually hreaking through the Whippet halves, and being the main scorer for her side. Other players on the Taniwha side who played well were N. Ratema, M. Mitehell, J. Chaytor and 'T. Mitchell. Despite the strength of the team opposed to them, Whippets made several promising excursions into Taniwha territory but their attacks lacked finish and many chances were lost by wild passing when near the circle. Tne b.cst players on the losers' side were M. Black, E. Mitchell and Z. Longworth, who was again playing at. fullback for Whippets after an enforced spell. l. The final scores were: Taniwha 4 goals, Whippets 0. MAMAKU BEATS PUTARURU. On their home ground, Mamaku beat Putaruru by five goals to two in a fast game, good play being witnessed on both sides.
