WHAT A GOVERNMENT EXPERT SAYS OF LIME. Mr J, F. Moody, Fruit Industries Commissioner, Perth, Australia, says A good -soil should contain at least one per cent of lime, and if less than th's proportion is present, DRESSING BECOMES NECESSARY. It must always be remembered that one per cent, of lime will not last long under ordinary conditions, for it is continually being lost by precipitation and leaching, and plants consume certain quantities. It is estimated that if the lime contents fall below one-fifth per cent, manures will not act, and I have no doubt that this is the reason why such poor results are often shown when ample manures have been applied to the soil. Mr Moody also states “ When buying quicklime, always see that is FRESHLY BURNED. If ground, see that it is FRESHLY GROUND.” You can be sure of this if you get your lima from AMNER’S.
