KARAMEA SETTLERS’ PLIGHT. Per Press Assocation. Karamea, Aug. 16. The Karama Bar is particularly good at the present time, the channel being straight, and there is at least 14 feet depth at spring tides, yet through the inabilty to secure vessels to carry the timber away all the sawmills are at a standstill, one firm of millers having four hundred thousand feet of dry timber awaiting shipment. Although they are offering big freights they cannot secure vessels. This is a pity, as this district is one of the finest in the Dominion. There are at least fifty million feet of rimu and white pine in the district, the quality of which is second to none iu the country, and at p-eaent settlers are felling and burning it in order to clear the land
