THE WAR LOAN.
WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL’S SCHEME. Per Press Association. Hokitika, Aug. 15. The chairman of the Westland County Council is submitting a proposal to the staff to arrange to take up any mount required in the war loan certificates, the staff to repay at the rate of 6 per cent, per month on the capital sum for 16 months, the certificates to be held by the- Council till the principal advanced has been paid off, when the certificates will become property of the contributing owner. It is suggested that this will be a helpful way to the placing of a large amount of the loan in the Dominion if generally taken up by local bodies to assist tbeirjemployees. RAILWAYMANS’ SOCIETY IN- ' VESTS £IOOO. Wellington, Aug. 15. The Executive Council of the Amalgamated Railwayman's Society decided to invest £IOOO of the Society’s funds in ther war loan. SMALL INVESTORS’ RESPONSE. Wellington, Ang 10., Wellington Post Office reports a good response by small 'investors to subscribe to the war loan, since Friday. As details of the loan became better known, each day’s records of business has shown an increase. Generally speaking, the small investor, that is, up to £SO for the five year period, makes application to the Post Office; but banks also report encouraging inquiries on the part of clients, both for large and small amounts. Auckland, Aug. 15. The South British Insurance Co. Directors have resolved to apply for £IOO,OOO of the New Zealand War Loan.
