CARNARVON NOTES.
From Our Own Correspondent. A large number of relatives and friends were entertained by Mr and Mrs Rockel at an afternoon tea on Saturday last at their residence, Carnarvon, the occasion being the celebration of the 50th anniversary of their wedding, which took place: “On the 13th August, 1866, at the residence of the bride’s parents, Pointb-field, Lower Rangitikei, by the Rev. J. Duncan Hermann, eldest son of J. G. Rockel, of Westoe, Rangitikei, to Eliza, eldest daughter of T. U. McKenzie.
The Rev. D. Nicholson, in felicitous words, on behalf of all present, congratulated Mr and Mrs Rockel on being spared to reach this period of their life. He hoped they would be spared to one another and to their family -and many relatives and friends, and that they may live to enjoy many more anniversaries. On behalf of his wife and himself Mr Rockel, in a few words, sincerely thanked them all for their presence and the many kind expressions of good wishes, and the honour they bad done them that day. They were deeply sensible to all the kind tilings said. Tea and cake were then handed round by the younger members of the company amidst a happy intercourse of kindly greetings, good fellowship and mirth. Mr and Mrs Rockel were the recipients of many valuable and handsome presents, a notable feature being a beautiful wedding cake presented to them, It may be mentioned that Mr and Mrs Rockel are still in the enpymeat of fairly good health and strength. They are the oldest residents of the district After their marriage they went to Matahiwi, in the-Waira-rapa, where they resided for some years. When the Manawatn Block was thrown open for settlement they came to Carnarvon, where they settled and resided ever since, Mr and Mrs Rockel, Tike all the early settlers, have seen a good deal of the hard and rough times of the early settlement incidental to such times.
