i- Christchurch* August 11. i.. A littie business has taken place in the wheat market, several sales I', having been made between meri' chants and millers, and a few purchases made from growers. Prices are apparently very much the same * a.-, they were before buyers went oil / the market.. Milling Tuscans " worth about 4s 4d to 4s 6d; Hunter’s, !-• 4s Bil to 4s 9d; and earl, 4s lid to 5s I at country stations. It is reported that space has been secured in two I' Home boats for several thousand sacks of wheat. There is nothing ■ doing in oats, and chaff is easier, the demand for the latter being C purely local, and prime quality is worth about £4 Is to £4 15s at country stations. The potato markot is a little firmer, orders having >. come to hand from the north a little -• w ore freely. i’or immediate aelivery £6 5s at country stations is -v boing paid, and for delivery towards the end of tbe month the price is £6 103.
STOCK REPORT. The N.Z, Loan and Mercantile goucy Co. report: Daring the week yard sales have been held at Palmerston and Feilding, and clearing sales on account of Messrs R. Waller at Bainesse and B. Gray at • Feilding. The heifersi sale advertised for Kangiotu on Monday conid not be held owing to the floods, and has been postponed to Monday, August 21. At the Feilding sale on Friday we had a moderate entry of both sheep and cattle, and with the exception of one pen of cattle have to report complete clearance. There was keen demand for all classes of cattle and - sheep showed an improvement on Inst week’s market. Small hoggets ■; JCa lOd, good hoggets 23s 7d to 245, store wethers 31s, small 2_ and 4 tooth ewes in lamb 29s 9d, mixed fat sheep 335, small yearling heifers £2 3s, yearling heifers £3 Os 6d to £3 ss, mixed yearlings £8 Is, small yearling steers £3 10s, 2 yr springing heifers £s_Jos to £7 10s, 3 yr springing heifers £8 10s to £9 las Cd, light store cows £4 los to £5 13s, forward cows £7 4s, store bullocks £l2. Dalgety and Co. report having a very fair entry of both sheep and cattle gt their Feilding sale on Friday, 11th inst., which sold at the following prices:—Medium mixed hoggets 22s to 22s 4d, good mixed hoggets to 26s 6d, 2 and 4 tooth wethers 29s to 31s, 4 and 5 yr ewes in lamb to 355, fat. ewes to 335, forward ewes to 21s, fat wethers 34s to 35s 7d, weaner heifers £2 6s to £2 10s, yearling steers to £4, empty cows £6 los to £7 18s 6d. Levin and Co., Ltd., Feilding, report: During the past week we held our yard sales at Bulls and Feilding, and a dairy sale on account of Mr 13. Corpe, of iKiwitea Bridge. At Bulls we had a good yarding of sheep and cattle. Sneep were dull of sale and most lots were passed. The enquiry for cattle was, on the other hand, good and we sold practically the whole yarding at auction, at prices slightly in advance of late rates. At Mr Corpe’s sale, we had a fair attendance. The cows, although a good lot are late calvers, consequently prices were not high. At Feilding we submitted a medium entry. Sheep ■ were in better demand than at last sale and all lots sold under the hammer at slightly increased prices. All classes of cattle, with the exception of grown bullocks, were in demand. Cows close to profit and store cows were keenly competed for and showed a rise in prices. Quotations; —At Bulls: Fat ewes 25s 3d, ewes with Romney rams 28s, do. 18s, medium hoggets 19s, Fat cows £B.to £lO 10s, forward cows £5 8s to £6 7s (id, cows in milk £lO, springing cows £ll to £l2 2s 6d, springing heifers £5 os to £6 9s, light forward heifers £6 2s 6d to £7 ss, empty 2yr heifers £5 10s, mixed yearlings £3 to £3 9s, pigs, porkers, 34s to £2 Is. At J. Corpe’s sale: August calvers, heat £lO to £l3, and £9 to £9 ss, September calvers £9 to £l2, October and .November calvers £8 to £9, springing heifers £7 to £8 17s 6d, heifers in calf 555, light! fat cows £9 15s, on account other vendors, cows to calve£B 7s Gd to £9 los. At Feilding: On account Tawera Estate 74 2th ewes with Romney rams £2, 84 mixed age ewes with Southdown rams 395; account W. Reid and Son. G2 mixed hoggets 21s Id, 39 do. small 17s, 26 b.f. do. 20s 4d, 26 do. 2is Od; account W. D. Port, 28 fat hoggels 24s Id, 29 do. 235; account R. Marshall, 15 fat ewes 26s Bd. Cattle: Fat cows £9 to £lO, fat heifers £8 2s fat heifers light £8 2s 6d, fat and forward cows £6 9s to £7 ss, empty Hereford cows £8 10s, do.|Shorthoni £8 14s, springing cows £7 to £l3 10s, store cows £3 15s to £4 2s 6d, springing heifers £6 6s to £7 15s, light fat bullocks £ls ss, forward 3 year bullocks £l2 17s 6d.
