THE WAR LOAN.
A MINISTERIAL COMMUNICATION. ADDRESSED TO POSTMASTERS, Per Press Association, Wellington, Aug. 12. In-connection with the War Loan the Postmaster-General has addressed the following letter to every officer of the Post and Telegraph Service: —“I am addressing yon personally with a view to securing your co-op eration in making the Loan a success. Men have been leaving the country in thousands for two years past for the purpose of fighting its battles and money is needed as much as men in order to secure victory over our common enemy. You and I have not been able to take any part in the fighting, but we can do our part effectually by finding the money to maintain the men who are fighting. Will yon assist by subscribing personally and by bringing the matter under the notice of every one of your friends, and urging them to help. The country needs to use the money now. Hitherto most of the money required for the war has been obtained from the Old Country, though the conditions of life are far harder than they are here. While there are many New .Zealander* hrave enough to fight and die for their country is it to be said of thoss who stayed behind that they were too mean even to pay. 1 shall he very glad if you will do all in your power to assist in preventing such reproach being deserved. Many of us are debarred from firing „leaden bullets but we all have a chance of firing a silver one now.”
