PALMERSTON HOSPITAL BOARD.

The monthly meeting ,of the Palmerston Norrtb Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present: Sir James Wilson (chairman), Mrs Z. Gill and Messrs J. AsNasn, J. K. Horhblow, J. H. Vincent, J. Voss, M. A. Moody, L. R. Bryant, H. Smart, F. J. Nathan, J. H. Bramwell, H. Mclntyre, W. J. Pearce and A. Mr M. „ O’Brien, the District Health Inspector, reported that 32 cases had been received during the month. There had been 24 cases of diphtheria, 18 of which had been in the Palmerston Borough, 3 in Foxton and 4' in Feildiug, There had been ! tuberculosis case in Palmerston and 1 in Oroua. Six scarlet fever cases hod occurred in Kiwitea. There had been 3 deaths: 1 from diphtheria and "2 from tuberculosis. The report was adopted. Mr W. K. Bock wrote stating that the memorial brass for the nurses lost in the Marquette had been partly completed, and that it would be forwarded in a fortnight’s time. The letter was received. Mrs A. Chalk wrote thanking the nursing staff] at the Hospital for their kindness to her late brother, Mr C. O’Flagheity. The letter was received. Misses M. Richardson, E; A. F. Holstein, R. Vickers and M.'Newth applied for the position ot probationers. The matron of the Awapuni Home reported that there were *2B inmates of the institution: 21 males and 7 females. The old folks had had two outings last month, The manager of the Palace Theatre had invited them to see his pictures and Everbody’s manager had extended a similar invitation. Colonel,lnglis had sent the motor ambulance to convey the party ou each occaisou. The matron applied for a safe to keep the valuables in '—The report was adopted and it was decided to write thanking .the manager of the Palace Theatre and the manager of Everybody’s Theatre for entertaining the inmates of the Home and to thank Colonel Inglis for his kindness in conveying them to town. Doctors Martin and Putnam, who are on leave, where reappointed surgeons at the hospital, and it was decided to ask the doctors who were actiug in temporary positions to continue to do so.
