MEAT EXPORT INDUSTRY.

Per Press Association. Wellington, August 10. The .Prime Minister has received a memorandum from the Imperial Meat Supply Committee which shows that during the past week two steamers were despatched carrying between them 38,648 carcases of mutton (wethers), 33,714 carcases mutton (ewes), 69,513 carcases lamb, and 10,806 quarters of beef. The total f.o.b. value of the same exeluding storage was £155,061. There are sis steamers at present loading meat in the Dominion. A cablegram has been received from the High Commissioner dated August 4th on the subject of tonnage, stating that the'London Tonnage Committee has arranged for the Leitrim to load meat in the Dominoh during this mouth. The vessel is due about August 21. This brings the number of steamers available for September loading to eight. The vessels are the Leitrim, Devon, Tongariro, Arawa, Pakeha, Zealandic, Delphic and Port Napier. The quantity of meat to he.lifted by these vessels will amount to approximately 750,000. 601 b carcases of meat held in store on account of the Imperial Government. In the various works ou July 32ud the 60'b carcases mutton comprised: Wether mutton 477,943, ewe muton 401,233, lamb 503,018, beef 578,637, and mutton pieces 10,464. This makes a total of 3,030,285 60lb carcases, as against 2,328,585 in store ou August loth. Estimates obtained from freezing companies of the meat remaining in store on August 15th for which no space allocation had been made total 1,131,336 601 b carcases. If the estimated billings to September 30th be added to this quantity, namely, 77,000 carcases, and .a reduction is made of the shipments estimated to take place during Septembei, the result will show that approximately three quarters of a million 601 b carcases will remaiu in store ou September 30th, for which shipping facilities will be required. The quantity iu store at the same date last year amounted to 665,992 601 b carcases, During the period under review payments made amounted to £133,294 3s 2d, bringing the total payments to date to £ll,397,669 ss. This amount represents shipments from the under mentioned districts of the Dominion Auckland, £916,376; Poverty Bay, £1,184,899 14s 3d; Hawke’s Bay, £1,097,834 12s; Taranaki, £463,312 18a 3d; Wellington, £3,024,323 17s 9d. North Island total, £6,686,447 8s Bd. Marlborough, £89,295 2s Id; Nelson. £51,238 0s 7d; Canterbury, £3,707,838 4s Id; Otago, £891,740 0s 9d; Southland, £971 8s Od. South Islaud total, £4,711,221 16s 4d.
