MURDER OF CAPTAIN FRYATT.
LORD GREY’S PROTEST. ASKS FOR MURDERERS’ f AiVIES. London, August 9, Official: Lord Grey, iu acknowledging Mr Page’s notes on the 29th and 31st July, forwards for communication to Berlin an emphatic protest against Captain Fryatt’s murder, which was a direct violation of the law of nations and the usage of war. He says: “The procedure at the trial casts" grve obloquy in the authorities. The unseemly haste is sufficient proof that the authorities were conscious of their unwarrantable action. The excuse offered for precipitancy cannot hut be regarded as unparalleled. In the circumstances I ask Mr Gerard to obtain a copy of the finding of the courtmartial, a statement of the manner in which the court was constituted and details of the defence; also to furnish the names of the persons composing the court-martial’and the witnesses.
