ARTILLERY ACTIVITY.
FRANCO-GERMAN DIET. HEM WOOD REOGCUPIED. Paris, August 10 A communique says: An artillery duel continues in the ThiaumontFleury, Yaux-Ohaptire and Lechenois sectors. We entirely re-occupied Hem Wood trenches, progressing northward of the wood. BELGIANS BOMBARDING THE GERMANS. A Belgian communique says; We successfully bombarded fortifications in the Dixmude region. A GERMAN REPORT. Main Service London, August 9. A German offical statement says that Franco-Britisli attacks north of ths Somme were broken. A British attack on Ovillers and Bazentin Le Petit failed, also French attacks at Thiaumont, Fleury and Chapitre. Our aerial losses durng July were nineteen ; the Franco-British losses were eighty-one, of which fortyeight are in our hands. In the northern corner of Courland we damaged may enemy torpedo boats, steamers and sailers. Russian attacks in the Stokhod salient and east of Kovel were repulsed. The Austrians regained their positions south of the Dueister. The Allies have withdrawn over the Nizusow - Tosmienica-Ottywia line.
