VOLUNTEERING IN CANADA
A GREAT FALLING-OFF. PREMIER’S PLEDGE ENDANGERED. Reuter. Vancouver, August 9. Newspapers express keen dissatisfaction that there were less than four thousand enlistments in Canada iu July. Premier Borden is pledged to send half a million men by the end of the year, hut at the present rate the pledge will remain unfulfilled till the end of nfext year. Newspapers demand strong measures to make up the defficency.
