RANGITIKEI PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the - above Society was beld’last evening, Mrß. P. Lethbridge presiding. . The Chairman reported that he had attended the conference of delegates from patriotic societies at Wellington. A number of important! subjects had been discussed, but invariably. they had been referred tc the Advisory Board for their decision. He thought the Advisory Board was quite capable of dealing with all affairs connected with patriotic societies affiliated With the Federation. The question of help being given to returned soldiers irrespective of where they enlisted from was discussed, and it was the general opinion that help should be given by the Society to whom the 1 soldier applied on proof of his claimi being procured. The treasurer submitted the following balance-sheet:— STATEMENT OP BANK

Spencer were appointed trustees for the Society for £SOOO derived from the Rangitikei Carnival. A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded the above gentlemen for acting as trustees for the Rangitikei Carnival Fund. Mr F. Spencer reported that the Rata Carnival Committee had forwarded their balance-sheet of the recent Carnival and enclosed a cheque for £9 3s 9d. Several Maori mats had also been forwarded, which had been presented to the Patriotic Shop. It was decided to offer the sections .given by Mr S. J. Gibbons, and won by Mr Cameron, by public auction. The Chairman reported that a meeting of delegates from the Bulls, Hunterville and Rangitikei Societies had been held in Maiton in reference to the bnilding of a hut at the front. Bulls had forwarded £l5O direct by the Commissioners for comforts of those at the front, and Hunterville had not decided to amalgamate, It was decided to forward £3OO to the Y.M.C.A. for the use of the soldiers at the front, It was decided to deposit £4OO in the Post Savings Bank, making a total of £IOOO. An entertainment committee was appointed as|follows to take charge of the farewell socials to the soldiers; —Messrs A. E. Crozier, Kingsley Harrison, W. A. Ingle ; S. J. Gibbons and the secretary (Mr A. H. Bill). Mr F C. Wilson was declared the winner of Mr F. Spencer’s walking stick, which realised £25 2s for the Tobacco Fund. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Spencer for the splendid result of his effort to procure funds for tobacco for Jthe boys at the front. The canvassing Jcommitteei; will meet at the Coronation Hall on Monday nigbt next to make arrangements for the completion of the canvass of the district. Messrs J. S. Karris and R. E. Beckett were elected members of the general committee. A charge of Is admission will be made at the next farewell social ami Is for supper. At an Executive Committee meeting of the Rangitikei Patriotic Society held on Thursday evening the chairman reported that the arrangements for erection of a Y.M.C.A. hutment at the front had fallen through, and it was decided to send the £3OO to the Y.M.C.A. to be used where most urgently needed for our men in France and England. Mr Banks has promised to give two nights of picture entertainments* on SeptexnDer 12th and 13th for the benefit of the general fund of the Society. A returned man was allowed the snm of £2 10s a week for self and dependents while waiting for returns from land taken up. The balance sheet ot the Patriotic Shop was presented to the meeting,, an it was resolved to publish same.
