TAIHAPE NOTES.
From Our Own Correspondent. S A clearing sale of Mr G. D. Goodrick’s dairy herd was held at the Taihape sale yards on Wednesday. The herd comprised Holsteins and Jerseys, the former selling readily at prices from £lO 10s to £ls 17s 6d, the average being £l2 Sis 6d. For Jersej’s the demand was not so keen. Early calvers sold at an average of £lO 10s, but a few more backward did not reach the reserve and were passed in. Twelve men have been notified in this district to proceed to camp with the Taihape quota of the 20th Reinforcements. This number falls far short of any previous local contingent. Mr H. H. Scott, of Taihape, who has been confined to his bed for the past six weeks, journeyed to Wellington on Monday last for the purpose of undergoing a severe operation. His many friends will be pleased to learn that since the operation, performed on Thursday morning, Mr Scott’s condition is somewhat improved. Mr G. S. Wrack, a Taihape member of the 17th Reinforcements, was entertained at a farewell gathering by a large circle of friends on Tuesday evening. Mr Wrack was made the recipient of a handsome wristlet watch, subscribed to by members of the Gazeeka Club. Taihape has of late been undergoing a period of very wet weather and a genuine bit of sunshine would he greatly appreciated. Lambing in some parts of this district has commenced rather earlier than usual. One farmer has already some 200 lambs, some of them rising three weeks. As showing the abundance of rabbits at Waionru, a local sport journeyed there on Wednesday last and was successful in decreaaig the bunny population by upwards of 50.
