ATTACK ON HEM WOOD.
GERMANS THROWN BACK. THIANMONT AGAIN CHANCES IHANDS. Paris, Aug. 9. A French communique reports that violent German counter attacks northward of Hem Wood were thrown back with heavy losses, ex- ' cept at one point where they reoccupied trenches, of which we retook the major part, i. The Germans again entered Thianmont Work, but we remain in the immediate outskirts. Our grenadiers progressed at Fienry. An aviator crossed the vosges from Kovre forest, flew 35 kilometres and bombed a powder factory at Rottmeil. There were great fires and many explosions.
