SOUTHERN MARKETS. Per Press Association. Christchurch, Aug. 8. The provision made in the Appropriation Act for increased duty on Australian wheat and flour, if necessary, to prevent unfair competition during the war has given satisfaction to wheat’’ growers and those interested in the wheat and flour trades. The market has not yet shown any signs of resuming its normal tone, as there is still some' uncertainty about Australian prices.' Oats are. very firm and scarce There has been a Jittle better demand for chaff owing to the wet weather. Thq potato market is still somewhat unsettled. Most of the sales are turning over purchases made during the recent decline. Prices offered at country stations are £6 os to £6 10s.
