MINERS’ DISPUTE.
Per Press Association. Thames, August 8.
Mr Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, presided at the Courthouse, to Tmquire into the miners’ dispute. The assessors for the employers were Messrs Kingswell, Staufelt and Daw, and for the miners Messrs Lucas, Morgan and McLennan. Mr Lucas, representing the miners, explained that the reasons for the demand were principally the extra cost of living. The miners had allowed twelve months to elapse after the last award had expired before they had asked for, a new agreement. They had asked for a war bonus, which had not been granted. Mr Grosvenor, advocate for the employers, suggested that inquiry, should be adjourned till the Ohiuemuri dispute had been settled, and this was agreed to. Mr Kingswell intimated that the employers were in sympathy with the men, but feared that it meant the death knell of the mines in jthe district if tlie cost of running were increased.
