THE LEADING AMERICAN CAR - THE “STUDEBAKER.”

In these days when any foreignsounding name is apt to come under suspicion of enemy origin it is just as , well to give the facts regarding the word “Studebaker,” as applied to one of the best known motor cars in the world. Studebaker is a Dutch name. The ancestors of the present chairman of the Studehaker corporation, Mr J. M. Studebaker, left Holland 180 years ago for America, so that the Studebaker family in America to-day belongs to the old ‘ ‘Knickerbocker” aristocracy of American society. They are no longer Dutch, bur as assuredly and undoubtedly American as Mr Theodore Roosevelt or the Vanderbilts. It may be as well to mention, too, that the Studehaker Corporation has been a very active helper of the Allied cause during the present war, subscribing a million dollars to the Allies’ war Joan, and contracting to supply enormous quantities of motor vehicles for Britain, Russia and France. During- the South African war the Studebaker firm supplied Britain with military waggons, and Lord Roberts pronounced the Studebaker waggons to be the best ever used by the British Army in the field. The Studebaker firm has been established in America for sixty-fonr years. It is a purely American concern, financed <by American capital, controlled by Americans, and with a head office at South Bend, Indiana. Studebaker cars are designed by Americans, bnilt out of American material in American and Canadian factories by American and Canadian workmen. We have to announce that a shipment of ' “Studebaker” cars is due to arrive by the “Pakeha” direct from the, Canadian factories in Walkorsville, Ontario, Canada, ADAMS, LTD., N.Z. ot “Studebaker” Cars, Christchurch; Avenue, Wanganui.
