DOROTHEA SPINNEY. On Thursday at the Opera House the recital will be. “The Princess Iphigenia in Tauris. ” This play fa a beautiful fairy tale—a romance that ends happily. Iphigenia is supposed to hare been killed by her father; in reality she is saved and placed as priestess in a temple on a desolate shore. Her’s is the' awful duty "of taking part in the death rites of shipwrecked men oast oa the shore. . Her own brother comes to this, savage place, and we have what Aristotle calls “the most beautiful recognition scene ever written.” There is a thrilling escape. This work is a great masterpiece and no opportunity should be neglected of seeing such art. When art and beanty are lacking a country sinks into degradation, This recital is on the tenth, and the plan is at Messrs Mogridge’s, Broadway’.. Twentylive percent, of profits will he handed to Red Cross Society. “THE DANDIES.” . “The Dandies” were greeted with a full house at the Marton Town Hall last night, when this talented combination of first-classartists gave a most entertaining and humorous programme. Every performer was recalled, and the concerted numbers were well rendered and very amusing. Mr Ford Waltham received -a hearty reception, and his powerful bass voice was heard to advantage in his vocal numbers. The audience was delighted with the whole of the performance, and the blending of the sentimental with the quaintly humorous selections gives “The Dandies” a unique place among touring companies. The company appears at the Taihape Town Hall this evening.
