Ip the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Mar-' Ann Wright (known as Mary Jane Harrie) and David Barrie appeared >»9 defendants in a case arising out of a raid upon a Taranaki Place boardinghouse. The charge against the accused was that she unlawfully sold liquor to James Wykes without having a lloem--’. David Barrie was charged that h< "ig the occupier of ihe Paragon Bo rdinghouse, he was privy to the salt of liquor, and that being on the premises when the liquor was seized, he was deemed to have been there for the .purpose of illegally dealing in liquor. The case against the female defendant was taken first. Evidence was given by several witnesses co prove the sale of liquor by accused. Sub-Inspector Pbair gave evidence that he with several constables raided ihe boardinghouse. Witness seized 88 bottles of liquor, consisting of beer, whisky and gin, nearly all being taken from accused’s bedroom. In another room a man was in bed with six empty beer bottles on the floor alongside him, ,and another partly consumed. Witness remarked, “You appear to be having a good time,” and the reply was, “I always do have a good time ” The accused was convicted and fined £3O and costs. The hearing of the charges against David Barrie was adjonraed.
