The number of patients at Wellington Hospital at present is 220, compared with 276 on the corresponding day of last year. Hon. ‘O. M. Luke, chairman of the Hospital Trustees, says “in direct opposition to the usual experience that in times of distress we have a greater number of patients; we have fewer than we had at this time last year. I can only account for it by the inference that the general health of the community is improved. The conditions of admission are the same as before; no extra restrictions have been imposed.” Mr Luke added that there had been a similar decline in the total of out-patients.
