MARTON SCENERY PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION.
At a well-attended meeting held last evening in Marton Borough Chambers, it was decided to form a Society to be called “The Marton Scenery Preservation and Beantifving Association.’’ The objects of the Association are the conservation of the scenery and v natural beauties o" Marton and its neighbourhood, and, with the consent of the local authority concerned, the laying out and planting with trees, shrubs and flowers such uncultivated spaces as are suited to that purpose, and undertaking the direction or carrying out of any other work which may conduce to adorn the borough or add to its attractiveness in any way. The minimum annual subscription for ladies and gentlemen has been fixed at 2s 6d, or a life membership subscription of not less than £3 2s. Children may be admitted as associates at a reduced subscription of Is. A strong committee has been set np to canvass and to arrange for a general meeting to be held in a few days .to elect officers and arrange business in order that tbe present planting'season may not ha missed. It is asked that all inteiesfced*in the movement will be present at this meeting. Some novel methods were suggested for raising the necessary funds which it is proposed to ask the Borough Oonnoiii to subsidise. Numerous promise's of assistance from prominent nurserymen were received and it is certain that the efforts of the promoters will be rewarded with the success they deserve. In the unavoidable absence of tfce Mayor, Mr J. B. Sicely occupied the chair.
