The New Zealand professionals played their opening match against New South Wales on Saturday. The weather was fine and the attendance 18,000. The game was fast and vigorous throughout. The New Zealanders were apparently not in the best of form after their voyage and did not get fairly going till well into the second half. New South Wales were a faster and better combination and superior iu open work. The visitors were better iu the ruck The [first half ended—New South Wales 15, New Zealand B—J. Spencer securing an unconverted try. In the second half the New Zealanders put in.some splendid work, and at one time had 16 to their credit against Wales’ 15. Tries were obtained by Barter (2), Lile, and Rowe, whereo* Houghton converted 8. The game ended : New South Wales 26, New Zealand 21.
