A LICENSING CASE.
Per Press Association. Gore, June 4. At Gore Magistrate’s Oonrt, before Mr Kenriok, S.M., George Dempster (Mr Znder) applied for a publican's license for Woodlands Hotel recently taken into Matanra No-lioease dis* triot from A warns. The only member of last Licensing Committee who presented himself was Mr Forsyth (Wyndbam). Mr Inder was about to point out that another member was present, when Mr E. O. Smith, solicitor, interjected that the person in question was an objector. Mr Inder: Are you appearing to object? Yon hare not lodged an objection. Mr Smith : A lot of things have not been done. The meeting of the Committee has not been advertised for one thing. Mr Smith contended shat the Magistrate -had power to deal with'the application. Mr Inder submitted that the old Committee was in existence Jontil its successors were appointed and took office.
The position was becoming invovlved when the Magistrate said that as far as he could see there was no Court at present at all, and he had no power to deal with the application. “If,” he added, “the licenses continues business after Jude 80th he will ran the risk of prosecution to settle the question.”
