OHAKEA SCHOOL BALL.
The 10th annual Ohakea School ball was held in the Sandon Public Hall last night, and as this dance is looked upon as being one of the most popular held in the district, It was not surprising that the building was well Oiled, as -many as eighty couples taking the floor when the band struck up the opening waltz, in fact there were quite as many dancers as the floor qould comfortably accommodate. As the couples rhythmically revolved in perfect harmony with the excellent music rendered by Hanley’s Zingars Band, they presented quite a brilliant appearance, many of the dresses worn by the ladies being most artistic in design and finish. The untiring energy of the secretaries, Misses M. Bailey and R. Henderson, and the good work done by the dancejoommittee have'been the means of making these re-nniona a success, and they are to be congratulated on the highly satisfactory manner in whioh.everything was arranged for the comfort of the numerous guests. The supper was served in the room specially set apart for that purpose, and the tables which held the nausl appetising delicacies were most tastefully arranged, and adorned with flowers, proving that a hard working ladies’ committee took charge of that department. The duties of M’s.O. were creditably performed by Messrs McNab, Bailey, and Henderson. At the close of the evening Mr MoNab, chairman of the dance committee, thanked all present for having kindly assisted in making the ball a thorough success. The floor was in perfect order, and as the dancers, weary with the pleasures of the evening, left for their respective homes at a little after 2 a.m., they expressed themselves highly delighted with the night’s outing, and one and all admitted that they had had a very pleasant time. The following ladies kindly played extra dances dnring the supper interval: —Misses Fenton, Howie, 'B. Bailey, L. Lynch and O’Neill (2). It la thought that the Ball Committee will have the pleasure after haying paid all epxenses of handing over abont £l7 to the Ohakea School Committee to be used for general school improvements.
