THE SHOOTING SEASON.
A TRESPASS CASE. At Marton Court to-day before Mr Kerr, S.M., an action was brought by Annie Pryce against James Harre, of Rata, on a charge of trespassing in pursuit of game on property 4a Rata. Defendant, when called upon to plead, stated that he was guilty of trespassing on the property but not in pursuit of game. This plea was accepted by the Court as one of “not guilty.” H. Pryce (Rangitawa, Kakariki), gave evidence that on May 3rd he found defendant trespassing on Miss Fryce’s land at Rata. He had a gun with him; also a dog, which was looking for game amongst the sheep. Miss Pryce had brought the case as a warning to persons to prevent stuck* owners suffering by deg add gun coming amongst sheep, also to aid the Acclimatisation Society which had liberated imported pheasants on the adjoining property. The defendant stated he had no evidence to offer.—The fseuoh convicted the defendant of the offence.—Mr Lyon, for informant, said that his instructions were to ask for only a nominal penalty ; that informant’s sole object Was the protection of game and stock. A fine of 5s was inflicted with Court costs 14s fid.
