Mr Ben Eelvington, Grand Master, in his address to ; the Conference of Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, at Bradford, dwelling on the Government proposal for insurance against [invalidity and sickness protested against any attempt to' establish a State aided compulsory form of competition with the volantary thrift movement. A letter from Mr Lloyd George was read, stating that whatever legislation was adopted care must be taken to safeguard the interests of the great Friendly Societies and to'seoure their active cooperation in the solieme.
