POLICEMEN SENTENCED.
■ Per Press Association. Wellington, June S. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Mr Riddell, S.M., gave his decision in the case :n Which Police Constables John E. Watson and Wm. Joseph;Gardiner were charged with assaulting Wm. Rolfe and his wife on the night of 10th May. v His Worship commented In strong terms of the conducts/of the - men. He had carefully considered the case from every side, and if there was a » possible chance of finding some redeeming feature in favour of defendants he shouhl he glad to do bo; But he could not do so. Watson “ was fined the maximum penalty df £lO, \and Gardiner £o. Gardiner 1 was also oouvietd of an assault on' Mrs Eolfe and sentenced to 91 days* imprisonment. t-■'• : L
