WANGANUI GARRISON BAND.

MARTON BAND BENEFIT

The programme to tie placed by the WangancP Garrison Baud on Thursday evening next iu the Opera House. Mat ton, surpasses anything that the hand have oudertsken before in this town. The main feature about the programme is that picees have been chosen so that' everybody will be aide to enjoy the music. The new conductor, Mr A. Wade, (late of England and Australia) will appear for the first time with their band here. In England Mr Wade was bandmaster of the famous Wyke Temperance Band which lias won £6OOO in prizes. A few years ago he came to Australia, and while there won several prize with the Ballarat Gity Band, including Ist prize and Championship of Australia in the B grade. Mr Wade is not only a great conductor but is also an adjudicator of high repute having adjudicated eight brass band contests in Australia besides choral and choir competitions. Now he. has come to N.Z. and taken the coudnotorship of the Wanganui Garrison Band, and we have already read in the papers glowing reports of the wonderful success that the Band had at the last contest iu Hastings under his able ooodnctorship. It will he seen by the programme that there are some new artists performing, Messrs Roaehe au(l Birmingham. The former is a splendid flautist who has already made a name for himself in Wanganui. Birmingham is a saxophone player of no mean abiilty. These two artists alone night to be sufFcient in , drawing a crowded house. New Zealand’s cornet player, Mr George Bnckley, is playing a beautiful triple tongue polka called “Fitania. ” He is not new to the Marton public and according to Ms past performances will be sure to meet with a good reception. There are only two local items included ; a song by Mr Sherriff, one of Marion’s favourite singers, and the overture which will be rendered by Orozief’s effiioent orchestra. The tickets for the concert are going off very well and a big house is expected. The prces are as usual—3s, 2s and Is, no early doors.
