When Conrad Wilkining, contractor, applied for an order of discharge from bankruptcy. Judge Cooper questioned the contention of bankrupt’s counsel that the trouble was due to misfortune and pointed out that he went into land sad building speculation with no capital, leaving his wife comfortably off. There was a deficiency of £3OO. His Honor ajdourned the application till next sitting.
The body of William King was found near the railway line about a mile south of Hayward’s on Sundaymorning. At the inquest to-day it was stated that deceased was an unmarried man, 28 years of age. Evidence pointed to the fact that deceased, who, one witness said, had on Saturday night been slightly under the influence of liquor, had sat down on one of the sleepers and been struck by the engine of a passing train. The verdict was accidental death.
In the'divoroe proceedings instituted on behalf of Agnes Ottaway for the annulling of her marriage with Amy Bock, the lawyers say that the proceeding is not absolutely necessary, that a marriage pre-supposes a man and a woman as the principals, and that as between any others no form of words or set of acts can make a marriage.
