The Minister of Customs, in reply to questions pnt as to the outcome of the Chambers of Commerce Conference, said that it was impossible as the law stands to have cigars weighed when taken ont of bond so that duty be paid on the dry commodity instead of on the green. He was willing to bring in a Bill to amend the Act in the direction suggested. The Minister could not agree to issue fuller statistical information. However, a monthly statement of duties was now prepared but not published. If of any service to merchants arrangements could bs made for its appearance in the Gazstte. The Minister held that legislation regarding export entries as proposed was unnecessary.
