United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph-Copyright. London, 'May 11. The Australians commenced their innings with Harfcigau\ind Bardsley. The former was ■ disposed of after making 14, Noble then joining Bardsley. The score , mounted rapidly, Bardsley playing fine cricket. When he had made 33, Noble was given cut leg before to Thompson, O’Connor made 5 and was then clean bowled by Smith, Who also got one past Carter. Cotter then partnered Bardsley, who had been batting splendidly all through, and the pair played out time, the score standing at 133 runs for four wickets. Hartigan lost his wicket in attempting to play back one from Smith. His score inoluded' throe 4’s made off the second over. The first wicket fell for 67, the second for 101. Noble’s innings lasted 70 minutes. His runs yrera mostly the result of late cuts, Smith disposed of O’Connor and Carter with successive balls, thoglatter succumbing to his first delivery. The fourth wicket fell for 133. Bardsley played free and faultless cricket, and was especially strong on the leg side. Received May 13, 9,30 a.m. London, May 11. The weather is glorious and the wicket fast. The attendance is fair. The Australians were four hoars at the wickets, aud the play was fast and interesting. Bardsley retired after adding a single to his overnight score. Ho gave a chance to Kingston at slip and in the same over one on the leg side. Hia play was splendid. He was 100 minutes at the wickets and made nine fearers. Cotter indulged in his usual free game. Northampton’s total was passed after 150 minutes play. Trumper’s innings lasted 100 minutes, his half century appearing at the end of 80 minutes. He played sound and free cricket and made eight fourers. Ho fell in trying to pull Thompson to mid-on. Armstrong showed all round play and made 50 5a 59 minutes. During two hours nfe the creases he gave no chance. His score included eleven fourem. The Trumper-Armstrong partnership lasted 75 minutes, and added 100.
