The House of Commons disonssed a liquor resolution covering forty excise duties. ,An animated discussion on the Hines of the public criticism followed. The Opposition warmly resented ■the Government’s attempts to apply the closure to the debate. The Times says the Budget is undergoing considerable modification as the result of criticism since its 'introduction. The'Strangers’ and Ladies’ Galleries in the House of Commons have been reopened. | Only ladies who are relatives of members are admitted. FLAG FLYING. Received May 12, 8.30 a.m. • London,: May 11. In the House of Commons, Mr Haldane, in reply to a question by Mr Ashley regarding flying the Union Jack on Empire Day, said he did not think the Empire would ha / held together by flag flying. (Ministerial cheers). The duty on foreign beers has been fixed at a shilling per 36 gallons.
