London, May 10.31 One hundred and sixteen Liberal, Labour and Irish members of the House of Commons memorialised Mr Asquith on behalf of deported Indians. Mr Asquith, in reply, said the appeal was a natural one and he was not surprised that it was widely and influentially supported. The Secretary for India and the Government of India were, however, the only judges. A cigar factory at Huddersfield is closing, owing to the tobacco duty, and 200 bands have been dismissed. No fewer than 450 cigar makers in Nottingham have been given notice. INCREASED LICENSE PEES. Received May 11. 8.10 a. m. London, May 10. Hotel proprietors are protesting against the enormous license fees and urging the taxation of drink at in the £. A similar method is proposed for clubs, which would pay 3d in the £. Mr Lloyd George, in an interview with a representative of the Daily Mail, said that the calculations made were greatlv exaggerated. He did not desire to (strangle respectable hotels and urged the public to await details of the Finance Bill.
