HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Press Association. Wellington, May 10. Following is the High Commissioner’s cablegram, dated Loudon, Bth May There is no alteration in the mutton market since last week. The market is demoralised and supply exceeds demand. The lamb market is steadier, with better demand on account of low prices. On the 26th April mutton was quoted as follows Canterbury 3d, North Island 2%d. The output is steadily increasing, and stocks are heavy. Current quotations are Canterbury lamb 4%d, other than Canterbury 4j=£d, Australian 3>£d. At the meeting of importers for the consideration of |the unsatisfactory state of the meat market it was decided nothing conld be done the position being caused entirely by excessive supplies. There is better demand for beef. Hindquarters are quoted at and forequarteis at 2%d. The butter market is steady and prices well maintained. Choicest New Zealand is at 101 s, Danish 109 s, Siberian 975,‘ Australian USs, and Argentine 995. The cheese market is firm, with small supplies on band. White makes 625, coloured 645. The hemp market is quiet, with small business doing. Following are current quotations :—Good fair grade on spot £23, fair grade on spot £2l 15s, fair current Manila cn spot £2l 10s. May to July shipments are quoted as followi-Good fair grade £22 15s, fair grade £3l 15s, fair correut Manila £2O 10s. Last week’s Manila output amounted to 26,000 j hales. Tho stock held in London is 204 tons.

The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and uncertain. Buyers are not keen to do'business in cocksfoot seed. The present price is 75s for bright clean 171 b. seed. The wheat market is very uncertain. Speculation affects the market very seriously and prospects are uncertain The market is firm at present;. New Zealand long-berreid wheat on Spot ex granary per quarter of 4961bs is 45s 6d, New Zealand short-berried wheat do. 44s 6d. The -v oat market bremains firm. New Zealand short Sparrowbill oats ex granary on spot per quarter of 384ibs, 265; New Zealand Danish, oats do. 3201b5, 20s. The bean market remains firm owing to reduced supplies. New Zealand beans 1.a.q., old crop, per 304ibs, 35s 6d.. Peas: The market is firm with more inquiry. Supplies do not meet requirements and holders are firm.New Zealand partridge peas per 5041b5, 47s 6d. The wool market is firm at the advance.

The following shipments arrived from River Plate daring the month of April:—London, mutton 190,516, lamb 48,058; Liverpool, 129.389, 83,430; Hull 7771, 1323; Newcastle 23,388, 8165; Glasgow 2813; Southampton 8369, 2470; Ireland 2495, 335; Cardiff 13,450, 1439; butter. Liverpool and Southampton 13,289 owts. '
