LORD BERESFORD.
MAKES SOME SENSIBLE REMARKS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received May 10, 8.10 a.m. London, May 9.
Admiral Beresford, speaking at Liverpool Town Hall, after receiving degree of Doctor of Laws, said that the Committee now sitting on Naval Defence was as fair a Committee as had ever been summoned before. If they found things not as they should be, which he had no doubt they would, there was no necessity for panic or recrimination. “Let us return to our |old British style, lay the whole thing on the table, look at it, see where we are wrong, and calmly and quietly put it right without recrimination from parties or individuals.’’
Lord Beresford, in a speech at Southport Physical Training College, said he had great faith in Mr Asquith’s Committee. There wonld he many points destined to become public and cause dissatisfaction, bat let them bury party and get together to put things right. No Jparty wanted to see the foreigner in Britain. ;He did not belong to the party in power, hot they were taking a national view of naval affairs and anything he could do to help them he wonld do to the best of his ability. “What has happened is that we have deferred our liabilities and obligations and when an individual or nation does that he must get money somewhere to pnt himself or itself right. ”
