COURTS.

Per Press Association. Christchurch, May 10. The Criminal sittings of the Supreme Oonrt opened at Christchurch to-day befgore Judge Denniston. For trial there are leprissners, including William Connelly charged with murder at Westport, several cases forgery, one of manslaughter, one of perjury; the rest are assault, robbery, theft and burglary. For sentence there are , seven prisoners for forgery, housebreaking and theft. His Honour, in charging the Grand Jury, said that the calender was unusually long for the district in which the list as a rule was moderate. Of sixteen bills one was removed from an outside district by arrangemeunt. Though not heavy all the charges were comparatively moderate in character, only one was of a sexual nature but there was no outrage. There seemed to have been a decrease of crimes of that nature during the last few sessions in all districts.
