From Reid & Gray, stating that a roller of about 50owt. with shafts, seat, eto.,j;the brake-roller to be of cast iron, would cost £BO. The weight could he increased by hanging weights to the inside of it. ■ N enaction taken. Prom Barrand & Abraham, quoting £57 10s for 43 by 43 Barford and Perkins double heavy pattern roller, without brake or peatj which would be 30s to £3 more. —No action taken. Prom Department of Roads, stating that requestfor subsidy towards cost of bridge at Menzies’",fotd had been noted for when the estimates were being compiled. The Engineer reported : Rangitawa Biding.—The contract for gravelling the Tokorangi Road has been completed and about 105 yards of gravel have been put on the other roads in this Riding. The bridge across the Mangaoue stream on the Feilding-Halcombe Road is in very bad repair; the fact that this bridge has been built without joists makes it in its present condition very dangerous for heavy traffic. The girders also have commenced to decay, but for a shorter span would probably last for another eight or ten years. I would recommend that this bridge be’. replaced With a new bridge having concrete abutments, steel girders aud all woodwork of jarrah. My etimates of cost is £l7O. The present bridge is about 89 feet over all, bnt my estimate is based on a bridge having a clear waterway of 33 feet, which I consider to be sufficient. The new bridge could be bnilt under the old one so that traffic would be stopped for only a few days. As an alternative the wooden girders of the old bridge could be used in the oonscruction of the new one, but this would not effect a very great saving as new joists and decking would still be required. Raumanga Riding.—The contract for gravelling Makino Road from Mackay’s Line to Wilson’s Line has been completed, about 2840 yards having been delivered; Makino Riding.—The contract for gravelling Mackay’s Line has been completed and the gravelling of Pharazyn’s and Spur Roads should be completed by the end of this w T eek. Taonui Riding.—The contract for gravelling the Feilding-Ashhurst Road has been completed, and the contract for gravelling the Taonni Road will he completed in two or three days. The contracts for gravelling the Bnnnythorpe-Aahhnrst Road (.and the Bnnnythorpe Road have been commenced, I have had the Stoney Greek Road trimmed up With the road machine Hiwinni Riding.—The work of widening the formation of the Kelvin Grove Road and the contract for gravelling the same have been completed. I have had the Watershed Road from the FeildingAshhurst Road to the BunnythorpeAshhurst Road trimmed up with the road machine. Otangaki Riding.—The contracts for gravelling the Pohangina and Ulysses Roads have been completed and I have also had Spur Road patched. The necessary to the Ashhnrst public pound would include the renewal of three gates, a new top rail right round and about 20 loads of gravel for yards, the paddock fence would also require repairing. I estimate the total cost of repairs at £l3 18a.-Adopted. OTHER BUSINESS. It was resolved— That (Ors.
