FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. J v B. Trewia), Ors. Gcodhehere, Bramweil, Richmond, Atkinson, Tolley, Bay well, Harford, West and Williamson. i CORRESPONDENCE. ‘ From Feildirig Beautifying Society, asking for payment of annual subsidy of £SO, or tbac a permanent caretaker be appointed.— The lasn request was referred to tha Works Committee, and the application for subsidy was held over. From Publio Trustee, in respect to proposal to construct a ’groyne in Orcua river at the intake, and stat-, ing that no objection would be made on account of. the H. J. Bailey estate. From Borough Solicitor, re appeal case in the matter .of rating church property.—lnstructed to engage Mr Innes to conduct case. From Messrs Prior & Gillespie, advising inability of Council to object to the whole valuation of the borough.—A eood deal of discussion took place on this matter'as to what course the Council should take. Or. Tolley and Cr. Atkinson seconded,-that the Connell direct the borough solicitor to proceed with an objection to the valuation as a whole. The Mayer stated that of 70 notices of objections given only 20 remained unsatisfied. The motion was lost. From Messrs Fitzherbart and Mclntyre, asking that lease of small piece of land near abattoir be transferred from Gilberd & Sons to W. Durrell. Referred to Abattoir Committee to report. From Oroua County Council, stating how it was proposed to raise money for erection of Menzies* bridge.—lt was resolved to provide - £250 towards cost of bridge as requested. From Minister of Affaire, notifying that Council should eleo% three members to the Fire Board.— The Mayor and Ors. Goodbehere and Williamson were^appointed. From Messrs * Palling & Lord, asking for return of their deposit oo Kimbolton sewerage extension contract.—Request agreed to. From H. Wilkinson, asking on behalf of Association Football Club for use of oval for practice.—Consent 1 given subject to approval of Park Committee.
Committee, asking Council, to elect representatives Ors. Williamson, West and Harford were appointed; and- Messrs Gotterill, Haggitt,. Gillespie, and Chapham were appointed to represent subscribers. REPORTS. From Manager of abattoir, reporting that during past month there had been slaughtered 67 cows, 63 heifers, 15 bullocks, 437 ewes, 50 wethers, 68 lambs, 55 pigs, 7 calves, and that 4 cows and 3 pigs had been condemned. The Health Oijficer stated that there was nothing to report in the matter of infectious diseases during the month. From Pouudkeeper and Ranger, stating that he bad impounded 75 animals last month. The Engineer reported that the levels were adverse to carrying out part of the sewerage works and he would now recommend that sewers be taken down Glasgow and East Streets from Derby Street to Denbigh Street, in addition to sewering the streets in the allocation. He recommended the formation of all footpaths for which the channelling and kurbing had been constructed. In conclusion he called attention to the urgency of proceeding with the works at the intake. The recommendation in regard to sewerage was adopted, and the matter of footpath formation was referred to Works Committee It was decided to h'avp the groyne at the intake constructed by day labour. Or. West reported that ha and Mr Jplin Qobbe bad visited Giesen’s bush and found it in good condition. There were 40 aores of bush and 30 acres of clear laud. The price per acre was £6O. It was decided to refer the information to the member for the district. OTHER BUSINESS.
Ors. Atkinson, Williamson and Saywell were appointed a Wotks Committee, with the understanding that they act during four mouths, two other sets of three members to act daring equal periods. Ors. Goodbehere, B ram well, Harford and the .Mayor were appointed a Finance Committee, and Ors. Richmond, West and Williamson a Light and Water Committee. ■„ The tender of Lynch & Ingram at £79:i 8s was accepted for channelling and kdrbing Camden and other streets. The other tenders were;— W. H. Ross £875, W. Salmon £lll3 15s, and Scrimshaw £1093 4s. The Mayor’s honorarium was fixed at £SO daring present year.
