The Premier agreed with the deputation in the abstract, bus public opinion was not ripe and wouhTnever sanction the step suggested. The scheme is that the present 3s rata should stand but that a la 6d rate for code telegrams and Is fdr plain English should be charged for delayed delivery. Perth, May 6. The Roman Catholic Bishop Gibney was sued for the recovery of £220 said to be dne on promissory notes bearing his endorsement. The nqtes were issued by the late Father ■ Keogh in connection with a land transaction. Bishop Gibney stated that he neyer saw the bills, and that the signatures were forgeries.. Tho Judge in giving a decision In favour of the Bishop, said that the conclusion to be drawn from the evidence was that the deceased priest Committed the offence or had ob* tained the assistance of somcone'else. Sydney, May 6. The trouble over the amatsnr question and the proposed disqualification of Snowy Baker as a footballer owing to his disqualification by a Sports Club as a professional boxer, culminated in the leading offoiala of the Rugby Union declaring that the Unicfn would never disqualify a player simply because he was a professional in another sport.
