At the wool sales 7892 bales were offered, including 7000 crossbreds; There was a large attendance, including a record number of Americans. There Was a strong general competition. Medium crossbreds were 10 per cent, above closing rates ofjjMaroh sales. Fine’and coarse crossbreds were 5 per cent, higher. A poor selection £of merinos, were par to 5 per cent, higher. Received May 6, 12 15- p m. London, May 6. The wool sales are animated. Merinos are f ally five per cent above March sales. Crossbreds are strong at yesterday’s advance. Wellington, May 6.. The following cable was received from the High Oommisisoner, dated sth May : , The wool sales commenced with a strong market, and a large attendance of buyers. Americans are competiing keenly , for crossbreds, merinos and coarse crossbreds. All grades ; are a halfpenny, and fine crossrbeds of all grades and medium crossbreds of all grades are one penny higher than last sale. The favourable.

Messrs Abraham & Williams, Ltd.,, report that at their Marton sale more than the advertised number of, sheep came forward. Lambs- met with keen demand, only one line "being, unsold. Quotations:—Lambs 7s to 8a lOd, medium lamhs 5s 6d ,to 6s 7d, fat ewes 9s 2d to lis 9d, empty ewes 5a 2d, ewes in lamb 8s 9d to 9a 7d. Oatle : Mixed yearlings 225, weanera 15s, yearling steers 38a 6d, 2-year steers £2]l4s 6d, fat cows £4. Piga : Weaners 9s 6d to 12s 6d.
Messrs & Go. report on Ranmai sale held on 4th inst. We had a small entry of sheep and a heavy entry of cattle, the bulk of which comprised 18-month to steers in, good condition, the demand for which was particularly keen and, with the exception of a few pens, all lines at auction. Following is a list of prices Mixed lambs 3s Id to 5s 6d, 2-tooth wethers 9s 3d, mixed we&ners 10s 6d to „ 12s, yearling to 18-month heifers 27s to 395, springing heifers £3 15a to £3 17s 6d, empty heifers £2 4sto£243s, yearling steers 29s to 38s, 18-mdnth to 2-year steers £2 to £3 15s, year steers £3 3s to £4 6s, empty cows £8 7s 6d to £4 6s, stags £2 to £2 14s. Messrs Dalgety & 00. report on Marton sale We had a small entry of sheep and cattle. Mixed lambs 5s lid to Bs, 2 tooth wethers to 10s, .forward cows £3 15s 6d, fat bollocks £6 5s 6d. ADDINGTON MARKET. Christchurch, May 5. At Addington market there was a large yarding of- almost all classes and a good attendants. Fat cattle were doll of sale at previous week’s prices. Store sheep were not in quite so good demand. Fat lambs were easier, and pigs were also ’ weaker. Fat wethers, except “heavy weights, showed a reduction, but fat ewes brought last week’s rates. Store cattle met with poor sale and good dairy cows were in brisk demand. v
Store ewes showed a failing off, young sorts making 14s 6d to 16s, and others 3a 6d to 8a 7d. Most of the wethers sold, very forward at 11s 6d to 31s 7d, average 9s 6d to 11s, low conditioned and inferior 8s to 9s. Lambs were only moderate sorts and were at 8s to 9a 6d. Fat lambs : Prices ranged from 10s 9d to 13s lOd, and a lew lines of extra heavy tegs to 14s 10d,. the bulk going at 13s 6d to 18s 10d. There was practically a clearance. Fat sheep:' Extra prime wethers sold up to 18s 9d, prime 14s to 16a 6d, lighter 11s to 18s, ewes 11s 6d to 13s Id, medium 9s to 11s, and aged and light 6s lid; to 8s 6d. Pat cattle: Steers made £5 17s 6d to £9 3s 6d, heifers £5 to £6 17s 6d, and cows £4 10s to £6 10s, equal to 18s Id to 30s for prime, 16a to 18s for medium, and 14s to 15s for cows and inferior per lOOlbs. Store yearlings sold up to 19s, 15 to 18-month 87s y 6d, 3-year heifers 85s to £3 10s, 3-year heifers £3, and dry cows 19s 6d to £3 A li£e of ;85 cows from the South passed :in , last week, changed hands at £2 Bs. Good dairy cows sold well at from 63 to £9. A medium entry of pigs met with a rather weaker demand. Choppers sold up to £3 10s, heavy haooners 68s to 6a, equal to 54d per lb, lighter 48a to 535, equalito 4% to 4%d per ib. Heavy porkers 36s to 425, smaller 28a to 85s, equal to per lb; medium stores 80s to 84s 6U, smaller 3*s ts 38s, and weaners 9s to 148.
