POLICE STOP WEDDING.
Edward' Toye, who recently escaped from Glasgow prison, was recaptured In that city tinder extraor- : dinary circumstances, Toye’s escape was a daring, sensational, yet lucky one. Early on the morning of February 37th a warder who had just opened the door of Toye’s cell had to hurriedly to go to the other, end of the corridor, Toye, grasping bis opportunity, slipped off his prison garb, and, attired only in his under•olotbing- ran to the gate at the end of the corridor, and, aided by his. -'small size and spars© covering, wriggled through the bars. ■ Then he had to drop twenty feet into the ■courtyard, bnt successfully negoti«ted this. A lorry was in the yard packed with, goods ready to deupatohedl Creeping under the lorry lie lay across the axle,and was driven out Of the prison under , the very eyes of the staff. Once outside he took to hia heels. Ordinarily his scanty attire would have created a sensation, but Marathon races were then the rage, and the milkmen and early wayfarers thought one of the runners was having a morning spin. The manner of Toye’s 1 recapture •was as sensational aa the method toy which he escaped. The police received news that he ■was likely to attend a wedding ceremony iq the city in the capacity iof bridegroom, and detectives attended. But Toye difl not Ac, cordingly the police called at a house to which he had been traced.
