AUSTRALIAN MEAT.

CONDEMNBD IN ENGLAND. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, Received May 4, 8.35 a.m. London, May 3. The - attention of Mr Ooghlan, Agent-General for New South Wales, has been drawn to the fact that 1255 sheep sent to Liverpool by a, Sydney firm, were sold by a dealer 'in the central markets, and 400 were despatched to the provinces, and the remainder stored at Smithfield. The owner on examining them called the Chief Inspector’s attention and obtained the return of the 400 with the result that 813 were seized as unfit for food. They were mainly in wasted and emaciated condition. The sheep bore a label, signed by the consigners “We declare this meat sold as fit for human consumption.” It is pointed out that such a label haa been regarded as a certificate of official inspection at the time of slaughter.
